This is a translation project report on On Histories and Stories by an English writer named A.S.Byatt,of which Chapter2, Forefathers is the source text.The text is mainly about the background and reasons of the English historical novel’s re-emergencesince the1960s and1970s. It also confirms Byatt has been focusing on zoology, entomology, Darwinismand other related content. Chapter2refers to different excerpts of historical novels to discuss differentforms of historical novels.This report is divided into four parts: Part One is a description of the translation project, including thetranslating task source, the introduction of the writer, the main content of the source text and the translationsignificance. Part Two is an introduction of translation theory and principles. Part Three is a description oftranslation process, including translation preparations, examples of using translation methods in the processof translation and version polish of the thesis. Part Four is Conclusion, including the experience and lessonsfrom the project, limitations of the study and prospects for further study.
