A Report On C/E Translation Of Transformer Substation Project Of Shanghai Disneyland Park (Excerpts)

This is a report on the translation of the first five chapters (about10000words)of the Transformer Substation Project of Shanghai Disneyland Park. The Source Textof this report is an electric power engineering text, which is a comprehensive planningand overall deployment of the transformer substation project of Shanghai DisneylandPark. Expressing the original information objectively and precisely is the main targetof translating engineering text. Therefore, in the translation process, the translatorshould pay attention to the choice of words and expressions. There are four chaptersin this report. The first chapter is description of the translation task, includingintroduction of the background, requirements of the clients, and characteristics of thetask. The second chapter is procedure of the translation project, including pre-taskpreparation and the translation process. The third chapter is the most importantchapter of this report and it can be divided into three parts. The first part lists thetypical problems in the translation process, such as translation of technical terms andprocessing of long and difficult sentences; the second part mainly introduces Germanfunctional translation theory; the third part is analyzing the difficulties based on thefunctional translation theory with specific examples, including literal translation andfree translation. The last chapter is summary of the author’s gain and experience fromthe project, and expectation of the future. This paper is a translation practice ofengineering materials, and it aims at providing some experience and lessons forsimilar translation practice.
