This is a translation project for the twenty-sixth section–Poverty, Development, and Hunger, of the Third Chapter in The Globalization of World Politics. Theconventional wisdom puts translation into two large categories, namely fictiontranslation and non-fiction translation which this translation fells into. As a green handin translation, the author wants to start from non-fictions, something easier at the firstthought. It turns out that non-fiction is still a hard nut to crack if a good piece oftranslation is to be delivered. Another reason on the author’s choice is the demand fornon-fiction translation is far greater than that of fiction translation. For whatever reasons, governments, companies and other agencies do need the non-fiction translation. What ismore, the author does want to know more about the past, the present and, possibly, thefuture of this globalized world, which, for sure, will not be discussed in this thesis. The source text (ST) is relatively easy to read but hard to translate into Chinese, full of terminologies, complex sentence structure and close reasoning. The ST presentsin detail the histories of and different schools on poverty, development and hunger, giving readers fresh eyes on those issues. This thesis is composed of four chapters:1)Introduction, consisting of the background, objectives and significance of this translationproject and the layout of the report.2) The Background of Source Text, consisting ofbrief introduction to the editors of the book and the ST author, the structure andlanguage features of the ST.3) Difficulties and Methodologies, the highlighting chapterconsisting of preparations, difficulties, methodologies applied and specific examples toshow readers the author’s train of thought.4) Conclusion, consisting of lessons learnedfrom this project and problems to be dealt with.
