The Study Of Northern Qi Literature

Northern Qi Dynasty(A.D.550-577) is one of the North dynasty in Northernand Southern Dynasties in ancient China. Although the regime of Northern QiDynasty had only remained a short period of28years, its literary achievements arethe most prominent in the Northern Dynasty. Northern Qi’ literature are constitue ofarticles and poems, the number of articles are more than poems. Under the influenceof northern scholars focus on the traditional concept of practice, practical writingbecome the focus of Northern Qi literati’s creation. Northern Qi’s poems are ahead ofNorthern Wei and Northern Zhou both in terms of quantity and quality, and hadformed its own unique style. Under the influence of Southern Literature, its articlesand poetry’s artistic skills had becomed more and more mature. When people in theevaluation of the Northern and Southern literature, many have a tendency of pay moreattention to the Southern literature, this is closely related with the the higherachievement of the Southern literature. But the phenomenon of Southern literaturesuperior to Northern literature had not always been throughout the Southern andNorthern Dynasties. By the end of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, afercontinuous accumulation and precipitation, Northern Qi’s literature had achievedsome progress and performance. Chen dynasty was about the same time withNorthern Qi, although the number of its poetry were significantly more than NorthernQi, in terms of the actual content of literature seems to be rather less,and itsliterature had striked to empty and vanity errors. In addition, Northern Qi literatureeven has a certain influence on Sui and Tang literature, we need to be deeplyconcerned with the study.On the basis of refer to a broad of existing literature of Northern Qi, this paperfocuses on a comprehensive and deeply carding and analysis about Northern Qiliterature. Combined with the contextual factors which has a major impact onNorthern Qi literature, as well as the mentality of Northern Qi literati, the situation ofthe literature exchange inside and outside Northern Qi, attempt to outline the overall style of Northern Qi literature.This article includes five chapters in total. The firstchapter introduce the contextual factors which has a major impact on Northern Qiliterature, including natural background, political background, cultural andeducational backgrounds three aspects. The second chapter disscus the mentality ofNorthern Qi literati and teir creation of literature. Specific analysis the mentality andliterary of different nationalities in Northern Qi, of literati in different levels, and thehighlight impact which the literati’s mentality effect on the literature.The thirdchapter analysis important writers in Northern Qi,such as XingShao,WeiShou,Lu-Sidao,and the epitaphs in Northern Qi. The fourth chapter analysis the situation of theliterature exchange inside and outside Northern Qi. The way to communicate with theoutside literature are the exchange of ambassadors, the geographical mobility ofliterati and so on. There are also many literary exchanges between the Northern Qiliterati. Through the analysis of the way of the literature exchange inside and outsideNorthern Qi, the important figure in literary exchange,and the important influncewhich the literary exchange had brought about, hoping to have a comprehensivestudy about the style of Northern Qi literature. The fifth chapter through looking atand thinking about the status of Northern Qi literature, hoping to carry out anobjective evaluation of its literary value.
