A high correlation exists between music and education. The faster music develops,the higher educational level is. Nowadays, music education becomes worldwide, whichinstructs people to distinguish good from evil, beauty from ugliness, and profoundlyinfluences their views of value. Focusing on the value of music education and itsdevelopment in China, this dissertation analyzes the connotation of music educationand reevaluates the value orientations by music education in the aspects of aestheticvalue, cultural heritage, social communications and so on. In addition, An exhaustiveanalysis is conducted on the problems in the development of music education in theuniversities of Henan province. Instances are also provided to prove the significance ofthe localization of music education. This dissertation consists of four parts.Part I expounds the essential connotation and developing background of musiceducation. In this part, research background is summarized, meanwhile, musiceducation is systematically analyzed from a view of historical materialism, and ainterdisciplinary research is conducted on the influential factors of music educationgiven the fact that music education is an interdiscipline.Part II elaborates the values and functions of music education under the mewcourse standards. Comparing the developing path of music education at home andabroad, this part looks into the developing background of music education in Chinafrom the aspects of aesthetics, innovation, heritage and so on. As to the realization ofthe function of music education, this part also stresses the problems in the main content,developing mode and other aspects of music education at home.Part III systematically analyzes the current situation of music education in theuniversities of Henan province. Examples are taken to point out the stage which thequality of music education in Henan province now undergoes. Besides, examples alsoexpose the problems in the development of music education, especially in the areassuffering a lack of education medium. Part IV sums up and discusses the problems lying in the current-stage musiceducation in Henan province and in China. In this part, the necessity of futureresearches on the development of music education in Henan province is emphasized,the potential changes by the progress of music education is expounded, judgments andanalysis are made on the issues such as how to transfer theoretical fruits into practices,how to improve educator’s professional skills and how to promote educational valuesand so on. Prospects and imaginations are also presented on the standardization,systematization of the theories in music education in China, and especially in Henanprovince.
