Different life-styles create different cultural forms. When the culture forms, thevarious ethnic groups will be influenced; they affect and depend on each other. Thisrelationship exists in every nation, and affects every person’s mode of thinking andvalues inevitably. In the process of long historical development, differentnationalities formed a variety of cultural forms; each of them took to the differentdevelopment roads.As the methods of transportation, communications and network developed withlightning speed in the world, the distance between countries and nations narrowedgradually. There are many different kinds of interactions between people, they arefar beyond the restriction of national boundaries. The frequent exchanges ofeconomy, politic, and culture make people can contact with others who are fromdifferent cultural backgrounds. At the same time, people realize that differentcountries and nationalities have lots of cultural differences. It makes people realizedthat they must widen their sight and develop their knowledge on interculturalcommunication.Every nation has a unique history, local conditions and cultural customs, whenthey communicate with others, the custom and culture will reveal naturally. Whenpeople communicate with a man who is from different cultural background at thefirst time, they often show various inadaptation, even leading to cultural shock, socross-cultural communication can’t be on the normal rails. This essay takes theexample of Cross-cultural communication between China and Japan, analyzes thecultural similarities and differences between the two countries. Then understand theinherent culture characteristics, ethnic characteristics and national spirit frameworkof Japanese, recognize the cultural mixing and conflict between China and Japanclearly, thus the awareness of intercultural communication will be enhanced.The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter mainly discussed theimportance of cross cultural barriers between China and Japan; it consists of themeaning of intercultural communication, culture shock, the necessity, purpose and significance of research on cross-cultural communication between China and Japan.The second chapter is the main part of thesis, it emphasis on the cultural differencesbetween the two countries, firstly it introduces Japanese cultural status and thenmakes a simple overview of Japanese culture. In a word, the chapterContrasts and analyzes the culture diffrences of China and Japan in the aspects of cultural customs, mode of thinking, values, language form, behavioral differences.The main content of the third chapter is the causes of the formation of culturaldifferences between China and Japan, including Social cultural factors, Japaneseattitudes towards death and the dead; The Japanese value level and cling to power.The last chapter in this paper put forward to solve the cross-cultural communicationbarriers’ corresponding strategy. The purpose of the paper hopes that Japanese andChinese can understand the cultural differences between China and Japan andCommunicate with each other fluently.
