The report is based on the Chinese-English translation entrusted on the author by Zhi Gao Translation Company, in which the author works as a part-time translator. The translation task is the Brochure of Fohow Group’s Products for Health Preservation.The report consists of four chapters. Chapter one gives a brief introduction to the original task, including the background of the task and the translation process. The background contains the source and purpose of the task. The translation process covers three stages:preparation, translation and proofreading. Chapter Two elaborates American linguist-Eugene A. Nida’s theory of functional equivalence and its influences on the translation of TCM. Then in Chapter Three, the author discusses the translation strategies that have been applied in the translation of the terms of TCM’s efficacy, the terms of TCM’s symptoms and the names of Chinese herbal medicine, under the guidance of Nida’s theory of functional equivalence. Chapter Four provides the feedback from the client and the author’s reflections on this translation task.By describing the translation process of the brochure of Fohow Group’s products for health preservation and analyzing the original text, the author hopes that this report can give some enlightenment to the translators who work on the TCM’s text.
