Listening teaching is very important in teaching Chinese as a second language, and the difficulty of the listening text books is also important to Chinese learners. In order to compile practical listening materials, and to improve learners’comprehension, how to control the difficulty of the text cannot be underestimated.This thesis includes the following sections:Chapter one is the preface, which introduces the significance of this article, the contents of the article, and the methods of reach. Chapter two discusses and analyzes the elements that influence its language difficulty by introducing and referring to the achievements in theory and practice on domestic and foreign readability research. And it puts forward seven important variables from the three aspects, including Chinese characters and vocabulary, syntax and grammar items, chapter and pronunciation. They are as follows:the length of each text, new words of each text, the number of the third and fourth level and out-syllabus characters by an average per100characters, the number of sentence by an average per100characters, the average sentence length, the number of set phrases by an average per100characters, and the average speed of recording.Based on these researches, chapter three selects three sets of intermediate Chinese listening textbooks, which are most widely materials and the most influential at present in domestic. It discusses their moderate regions of Chinese characters and vocabulary, syntax and grammar items, chapter and pronunciation. Statistical results show that the moderate regions of intermediate Chinese listening textbook,they respectively are:the length of each text is443.1-460.5, new words of each text are3.7-11.8, the number of the third and fourth level and out-syllabus characters by an average per100characters is0.65-2.26, the number of sentence by an average per100characters is between46.02%-60%, the average sentence length is4.22-7.54, the number of set phrases by an average per100characters is13.27-23.7, and the average speed of recording is2.59-3.69letter per second. Chapter four is the section of summarize, this thesis summarizes the problems on language difficulty in current intermediate Chinese listening textbooks. And combined with the statistical results of the above three sets of textbooks and some advice from other language experts. For example, to control the number of new words, and length of each text, to decrease the number of set phrases by an average per100characters, and to retard the average speed of recording. It tries to put forward some reasonable suggestions, which expect to help textbook writers with the selection and arrangement of language materials, or users of teaching materials in choosing the appropriate intermediate Chinese listening textbooks. The third chapter and the forth chapter are the key parts in this article.This thesis expands the following aspects on the basis of previous studies:firstly, it puts forward seven important variables from the three aspects, and had a positive try on intermediate Chinese listening textbooks. Secondly, during ascertain by measuring, it obtained the moderate regions of intermediate Chinese listening textbook, which provided new data for the compiling of the intermediate Chinese listening textbooks.
