Based on the literary works, this thesis mainly discussed about the very phenomenon of female’s running away in the fictions of Mei Niang, who was the writer of the1940s. Meanwhile, it also illuminated the aesthetic pursuit of regarding the female concern as core in the works of Mei Niang, and the original intention of writing about individual extension as well as humanity concern. Mei Niang was a female writer in the enemy-occupied area of the1930s-1940s, and in her works, the description of female’s running away followed the literary nature of the advocate of individual liberation and the pursuit of the true, the good and the beauty during the May4th era. Further on, the writer also extended the presentation of female’s survival predicament, deepened the exploration of female’s future and formed a special language feature about gender, which was quite different from other contemporary female writers in the enemy-occupied area. Except of the introduction, this thesis composed of four parts. The first three parts consisted of three aspects, including the classification of the types of female’s running away, the reasons of their running away, and the dilemma after their running away. In microcosm, the first three parts consistently showed the very phenomenon of female’s running away in the fictions of Mei Niang in the1940s. The forth part was about the significance and the value of running away, and in the lager sense, it was a summary about the female’s running away in the fictions of Mei Niang in the1940s.In the first chapter, it briefly traced the origin of female’s running away in the fictions of Mei Niang in the1940s, and focused on the analysis of the types of female’s running away. Many writers loved to choose affection as the theme of their works, and also Mei Niang did. However, different from contemporary female writers, such as Zhang Ailing and Su Qing, etc., her attitude towards affection was positive and optimistic, and she believed that "honesty" in love and marriage was useful, and she practiced this idea with self-action, from which we could find out the prime reason why she could write something about female’s running away. In the process of literary creation, Mei Niang tended to shape those females in new type, that is, they dared to strive for love and marriage freely; besides, she also tended to present multiple ways of running away, including elopement, marital infidelity, running away from home and running away twice. From reading the text in details, we could see that Mei Niang focused on strengthened the dramatized action that heroine rebelled and ran away in the novel, as a result, it manifested a kind of courage that the new females tried to get rid of the constrains of time and strive for their fate; meanwhile, it also showed that the writer yearned for the aesthetic pursuit of the true, the good and the beauty.In the second chapter, much emphasis laid upon the reasons of female’s running away in the fictions of Mei Niang in the1940s. Feminism considered that patriarchy was the root causing oppression on women, and the foundation of patriarchy was just the extant structure of family. The background of female’s running away in the fictions of Mei Niang in1940s was traditional feudal extended family, and which also the main place where the conflict broke out. Therefore, it was obvious that women were oppressed by patriarchy in this environment. They were either daughters who were exchanged by elder generation or wives who were desolated and abandoned by their husbands, as a consequence, they were forced to run away. Further on, the very close relatives who had direct line of blood lineage became the crime culprit who killed the women.In the third chapter, it mainly analyzed two unfinished full-length novels of Mei Niang in the late period of1940s and expounded her creating diversion in the description of female’s running away; besides, she paid more attention on the presentation of the dilemma after female’s running away in this period. The Blossom Of Chinese Magnolia Flower talked about the problems of the changes of female’s inner hearts, and Little Women discussed the lost of female ego. Therefore, we learnt that Mei Niang demonstrated women’s confusion and bewilderment over the process of way-finding on psychological level. In the process of creating full-length novels, she did not intensified the dramatized action of female’s running away, but deepened the thinking about female’s survival predicament under the over-all social situation. This kind of creating diversion embodied that Mei Niang’s view of female writing was rational and objective, and she also continued to pay attention and thinking on individual life.In the forth chapter, it summarized generally the significance and value of female’s running away in the fictions of Mei Niang of1940s. there was a close connection between Mei Niang’s works and the tradition of Chinese realistic literature in the May4th era; and this kind of connection firstly could be embodied by comparing her description of female’s running away with Feng Yuanjun’s, and from which we could see that Mei Niang’s description of female’s running away was either following the description of female’s running away during the May4th era, or even breaking through the latter. Secondly, in the description of love topic of female’s running away, she not only continued the individual spirit of pursuing free love, but also extended the presentation of marriage life. That she did not avoid the trivial aspects of marriage demonstrated her writing idea about marriage, which was based on normality, elegance and vulgarity. What’s more, even in the1940s, the general background of literature was mainly about war of resistance and aggression, however, Mei Niang was not following blindly. Instead, she devoted herself to the female writing, making a connection with individual extension and humanity concern in the May4th era. As a result, we could see that she made a contribution to multiple patterns of literature in the war time.Running away embodied the basic status and the spirit requirements of the survival of mankind. Writers emphasized the individual thought and fate, so Mei Niang did. For human being, she thought that the most important thing was to have a reasonable survival environment and men were willing to make every effort to this environment. Running away was a way for the individual to pursue reasonable survival environment and realized self-worth. No matter in her realistic life or the imaginary world of the text, Mei Niang showed a kind of spirit quality that the individual braved to pursue, dared to resist and took delight in living. This kind of spirit quality was also precious in current society. As a result, when we reread the works of Chinese contemporary literature history, and when we recalled the names of countless writers, I hoped that we could still thought of her, the one who was ever forgotten, but now was known again——Mei Niang madam.
