Chinese painting has unique national style, but the existing researches are mostly focus on the western art, so it is necessity to study the aesthetic appreciation of Chinese paintings. This study use the material of Hua-niao and Shan-shui painting to investigate the aesthetic appreciation of college students, and make comparison of expert and nonexpert students.Study1, an aesthetic appreciation questionnaire with75items was conducted using the material of eight Hua-niao paintings. After data collection, using SPSS software to analyze the structure of the questionnaire, finally it is decreased to35items involve seven aspects of aesthetic appreciation, which are negative emotion, attraction, artistic quality, self-reference, cognitive exploration, expertise and understanding. Also, the aesthetic preference is analyzed. It indicates that college student prefer colorful paintings.Study2further explored the aesthetic appreciation of expert and nonexpert, and analyzed the eye movement of the subjects. The mainly results are:the aesthetic preference of experts is significant influenced by painting style, but for nonexperts, the impact of color is more significant, which is in accordance with study1.As For eye movement, there have no significant difference between expert and nonexpert, but when concerned different painting styles, there are significant differences within the two kinds of subjects. It turned out that there are different ways of appreciation, which influenced by the specialized knowledge.
