Review The Relation Of Science And Ethics

As everyone knows, ethical issues are always ignored by science community. When scientists deal with the ethical issues that arise from scientific research, they either end in failure or ignore the issues. Then, why did these things happen? In what place should the ethics have in science on earth? In this text, I would like to talk about these questions from positivism scientific view.Positivism Scientific View is acknowledged by science community and it seriously influences the relation of science and ethics in scientists view. In their opinion:real science must be based in experience, since the tribunal of experience is the objective, universal judge of what is really happening in the world. Logical positivism goes even far, in their sight the claim have the meaning in science only when it can be confirmed or falsified by experience. Ethical judgment was meaningless from experience and scientifically. So scientists exclude ethics out of the sight of science, because all the ethical judgments are related with value but have nothing to do with fact. It is the faith that science community has insistent a long time. By all the means, this view of science teaches the scientists that science is only about fact, but not about ethics and value. So when scientists come across the ethic issues arise from their research, they always ignore them.In animal research, scientists denied the animal ethics and the existence of animal pain directly, for they think we cannot legitimately speak of thoughts, feelings, and other mental states in science, since we cannot deal with these things objectively, not having access to the thoughts and consciousness of others. But the point leads to the high number of incidents of animal abuse in laboratory. On the other hand, in medical research, they only pay attention to prolonged the patients lifetime, but neglect their quality of life, which lead to the untoward effect in the patients’ mood and psychological, which may have the bad influence in their physiology and the effect of cure.In biotechnology, the ignorance of ethical may lead to Gresham’s effect that bad ethics exclude good ethics, for scientists fall to lead the public reasoningly talk about the ethics problem before the new technology come into being, or talk about it when the technology come true. Result in bad ethics spread and hide in the talk of public.In the side of scientific achievements, along with the development of science, more and more scientific come out of the laboratory, and applied in the society. But the new scientific achievements always cause the blank space in social ethics. However, scientists always fall to find the blank and rectify it with their professional knowledge, or maybe even if they find the blank in ethics, but pay no attention to it. After all, the ethic issues fall to deal with in time, and cause the damage to the society. For example, the social panic that comes from human cloning, splice, genetically modified food and so on.There are also many other damages that result from the failure of scientists in dealing with ethic issues. For example, science community lost the public trust, so the support from the society reduced and the restriction to science strengthen. For these reasons, there is time to delay to abandon the positivism scientific view, face up to and seriously deal with the ethics issues arise from science research.
