Research On Song Dynasty Yao Zhou Celadon Decorative Patterns

The Song dynasty marked a period in Chinese porcelain, when many famous kilns were in their prime, such as Guan kiln, Ru kiln, Yaozhou kiln and Jingdezhen Kiln. Celadon from Yaozhou Kiln is regarded as the king of northern porcelain because of its excellent workmanship and remarkable variation on decoration. As a result, studies on its artistic style, its combination patterns and its aesthetic trends mostly reflect the fashion, spirits and political trends of porcelain decoration in Song Dynasty.This paper analyzes the decorative patterns of porcelain of the Yaozhou kiln of the Song Dynasty. Through the process of literature review, pictures collection and data analysis, it concludes the theme, patterns, combination and expression from the aspect of social background, like institutional change, scientific technology, aesthetic idealism, religious situation and the special geological conditions on Weibei plateau, and even the influence from the opening of the Silk Road. It provides the propagating of celadon culture and accelerating of Shaanxi economy. Foremost, it offers design for the heritage and innovation of Yaozhou celadon.
