With the further development of reform and opening up, the economic power andcomprehensive national strength of China have improved significantly, which has greatlyenhanced its influence in the international world. Therefore, more and more foreign tourists arecoming to China for a visit. As one of the vital tourism provinces of China, Shandong attractsnumerous foreign tourists every year owing to its abundant natural and cultural heritages. Tomeet this kind of requirements, English versions about famous scenic spots of Shandong come toexistence. In addition, many experts have studied on tourism translation. However, there are fewEnglish materials about the implicit culture of Shandong’s geography and history, let alonetranslation studies on it. This report attempts to apply Skopos theory into translation aboutShandong’s geography and history. On one hand, the report tries to make target readers have abetter understanding of Shandong culture; on the other hand, the writer hopes the report can offersome supplement for tourism translation by some examples and translation strategies.Based on translation theories, this report provides an explicit description about the featuresof Shandong tourism translation, the current status of translation about Shandong’s geographyand history, the background of the task, its process and case analysis. In case analysis, under theguidance of Skopos theory and domestication, the writer thinks that the purpose and readabilityof the target text should be first considered in the process of translation. Thus, appropriatetranslation strategies should be adopted. In translation proper nouns, transliteration plusannotation and literal translation plus annotation should be used; in translation long sentences,segmentation, edition should be used. In addition, translation in discourse level should be paidattention. The writer hopes this report can offer some supplementations for tourism translationand can make foreigners understand Shandong culture better at the same time.
