This is the translation report on the book A House Somewhere: Tales of Life Abroad,which is published by Lonely Planet Publications. This book belongs to travel literature whichcontains scenery description, narration and emotion expression. It is the record of theexperiences of living abroad and emotional changes of different authors. The translatorchooses four chapters as the source text and categorizes the translation difficulties and skillsduring the translation practice.This translation report includes four chapters, task description, project process, casestudy and translation practice summary, among which the case study is the key part of thisreport. In travel literature, it is common for authors to use figures of speech in their writing toprick the readers’ interest and enhance the artistic effect of language expression. Thus, thetranslation of figures of speech is the focus of the case study part which is divided into fourparts according to different types of figures of speech. Representative cases and translationstrategies like literal translation, free translation and substitution are given to illustrate how totranslate rhetoric sentences properly. The translator hopes that this report could bring someuseful references for the translation of travel literature.
