Gramsci’s Cultural Hegemony Theory And On China’s Cultural Security Implications

The early leader of the Italian Communist Party and the labor movement, Antonio Gramsci, who was not well-known in academia, but provided a special way to seize the leadership of the proletarian party for the Western developed capitalist countries. Most of Gramsci’s ideas are scattered in the "Prison Notebooks" in each chapter, but through in-depth analysis of his notes, we can clearly see its main lines-cultural hegemony theory. Through in-depth analysis and study the international and domestic context in Italy and combined with his own revolutionary struggle experience, Gramsci put forward the theory of cultural hegemony creatively, which not only provided another viable idea for the proletarian struggle in developed capitalist countries, but also for the consolidation of the socialist state power and upgraded cultural to another height in addition. This article is trying to disperse the parted concepts of Gramsci’s cultural hegemony in "Prison Notes", so that we can learn the Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony completely.Culture also has the global feature with the development of economic globalization, which leads to the world’s cultural interaction and mutual contest. However, combined with the obvious impact of political, economic, cultural impact and penetration is inherent and implicit. Western developed capitalist countries make use of their economic, political and cultural advantages, especially the highly developed information industry, to benefit from the developing countries continuously as well as cultural infiltration and cultural colonization wantonly, which threaten the sovereignty in developing countries. Therefore, in order to resist the cultural colonization, we must strengthen the construction of national cultural security effectively. Only by strengthening national cultural security building can we strengthen the guidance of Marxist ideology, strengthen the dominant position of Marxism in China, enhance national cohesion and creativity to expand our influence on the international community and resist the cultural colonization from the Western developed capitalist countries effectively.By depth-analysis the theory of cultural hegemony, this article is trying to fully grasp the theory of cultural hegemony. Therefore we can learn from it to strengthen the safety culture construction in China. In fact, this paper is divided into three parts: The first part is "the formation conditions of the Gramsci’s cultural hegemony theory" which is mainly for the domestic and international environment in Italy and the origins of Gramsci’s cultural hegemony theory. The second part is the "main content of Gramsci’s cultural hegemony theory". In terms of the philosophical support, the reality-based and the leading force of the theories, this part reveals the picture of the theory. The last part is the "Gramsci Theory on Chinese cultural security building", which can be built by three means:the ideological construction, the innovation strengthen and the construction of a new international cultural order.
