As one of Chinese earliest inception of the modern cities, Shanghai had become the focus of attention of the whole world early in the nineteenth century. The old unofficial Shanghai style and has been a selling point for Shanghai television drama production. The ongoing writing of the image "ten foreign markets" is the important means for filmmakers to express complex of old Shanghai. Film about the city memory and the people living turns staged on the big screen and ballrooms have not always been one of the bright colors, but also the focus of portray. The old Shanghai Ballroom presented by the way of contemplation of the images in reality, is not just movie people’s miss to a special period of Shanghai city status, but also filmmakers’ reflection of nostalgia role in order to think deeply about ballroom in Shanghai economic and cultural patterns and public mental standpoint, social, value orientation, which is an important stop for Shanghai culture " roots " trip of the film artist.Meanwhile, the film as a means of urban culture metaphor, will shape the image portrayed by the film itself into a metaphor for the system, which built up about the link between dance and Shanghai culture, dance through the lens will zoom into the city space, concentrated in the city’s ever-changing turn into dance. Moviegoers produce dance culture in Shanghai and the Shanghai city image of empathy and the role of the association in the perceptual system, and then complete the viewer to imagine the city’s image with the film butt.This paper attempts a comprehensive study of the films whose theme are old Shanghai city images in1930s. It analysis the portrayed ballroom dancers in systematic and in-depth way, revealing the ballroom cultural metaphors in the movie, and then presented their analysis of Shanghai urban culture and spirit of the city, seeing through social transformation and cultural significance behind the change towards the ballrooms.
