As we know, the study of novel translation has always been playing an important role in the study of the literary translation. The author chooses the first two chapters of the novel Eighteen Springs as translating material, focuses on the translation and study of culture-loaded words and observes the application and effect of the strategies of Thick-translation.Eighteen Springs, written by a Chinese celebrated novelist and essayist Eileen Chang, is the first full-length novel finished in1951. Later she deletes the ending with political complexion, and changes the name into Half-life Fate, thus the novel embodying the vicissitudes of life of several pairs of lovers simply. The novel consists of eighteen chapters, and it conveys the eighteen springs that the protagonists walk together; hence name of the novel emerges. From the novel we can see the solid writing capability of the author of the original, the characters in the novel are so exquisite, and the description of the image of the characters is vivid, thus the target readers seem to expose to the scenes, and experience all emotions, namely, joy, anger, sorrow and happiness of the characters.The author chooses the first two chapters of the novel as translation material, counting about12,000words. One of the difficulties in the text is the translation of culture-loaded words. Because of the culture difference between China and the West, if the translation of the culture-loaded words fails to express real meaning of it, it will cause misunderstanding and obscurity for the target readers. So the report intends to focus on culture-loaded words, making use of the translating methods of glosses under the guidance of Thick-translation.The report mainly includes the following parts, namely, the introduction of the novel and author, the introduction of Thick-translation and culture-loaded words, case analysis, translating experiences and conclusion. The application of the translating method of annotations realizes the intercultural transmission, and the author hopes it will provide a reference for subsequent translators to translate the culture-loaded words.
