With the further deepening of the world exchange, international trade has become a trend. The increasing amount of international business not only brings enormous benefits to economic development of the world, but it also arouses a lot of problems, the most remarkable of which is the increasing number of transnational smuggling. The interrogation on the suspect is a key step on uncovering the transnational smuggling cases. While because of the language barrier, assistance provided by the professional interrogation interpreter is in an urgent need. Different from the general dialogue interpretation, the requirements on the interpretation skills and the roles the interpreter play need to be paid a great attention. The research on interrogation interpretation is significant. This report is based on the author’s interrogation interpretation experience in Anti-smuggling Bureau of Yangzhou Customs. With the help of the interpretive theories and skills, the author analyzed the issues in the interpretation and provided some her personal suggestions on doing an interrogation interpretation. In chapter one, the author had a detailed introduction of this interpretation practice and her preparation on it. In chapter two, the author explained the interpretive theory and the role of the interpreter to play in the interrogation. The core of the interpretive theory pointed out that the interpretation should get rid of the literal meaning, and the equivalence in the meaning is more important. This point of view is largely applied to the interrogation interpretation. Since the interrogation interpretation is different from the traditional interpretation, and the clients the interrogation interpreter served for are quite special. How to get rid of the traditional view and find the proper role to play are the main problems the interpreter needs to be taken into consideration. Combine with the traditional requirements on the interpreter and the features of the interrogation interpretation, the author thought that the interpreter should also play the role of a participant, a coordinator and a conciliator. In chapter three, under the guidance of the interpretive theory, the author put forward the strategies and skills which could be used in the interrogation interpretation. Through the cases analysis, the author concluded the new requirements on the interpreter’s role in the interrogation interpretation. At the end of the report, the author shared her personal experience and provided some suggestions on doing the interrogation interpretation. Only by constant study and practice can we be competent enough to be a good interrogation interpreter.
