With the achievement of globalization, cultures of different countries in the worldhave been shared. Based on the Functional Equivalence Theory created by Americanlinguist and translator Nida, the report mainly talked about the translation task andprocess. The book I chose is I’ ve Got Your Number written by English novelist SophieKinsella.Different from other translator, Nida created a complete new theory in a broaderscope. In order to improve the quality of translation work, translators need to use nativelanguage to transfer the natural and closest meaning of source text. The equivalence inform is not the only criterion. That is to say, the goal is to give the same readingexperience to the target language reader as the source language reader. Best seller is onekind of fiction, enjoying some distinctive features. It emphasizes on character, plot andcircumstance. Through these elements, best sellers can reflect the social life of that time.The report consists of five parts.Introduction is the first part. It talks about the present study on the translation of bestsellers both at home and overseas. Research method and procedure have also beenmentioned in this part, as well as the problems solved.Chapter One describes the translation task, involving the background of both thewriter and the work. At the same time, this part also contains the features of best sellers.Chapter Two is about the translation process. It is consisted of three steps,preparation, translation process and items after the translation process.Chapter Three is the analysis on the translation cases. It can be decided into twoparts, the general idea of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and some casescombined with this theory. Through the case study, some translation strategies have beentalked about.The last part of the report is the conclusion. It generalizes the translation task,translation process and the theory and strategies. Then some advices have been put up tothe future translation study.
