Research On The Urban Culture Of Ancient Athens

As a typical form of city-state，the development of Athens and its urban cultureplays an important role in the process of civilization in world history. As a part ofcommercial field of Athens, the coin itself and its historical evolution is the mostsignificant carrier of the study of the urban culture of Ancient Athens. The purpose of thispaper is to present the process of politics, economy, culture and religion in differenthistorical period of Athens through the evolution of the coin and its characteristics indifferent historical stage.The first part introduces the time, background of Athenian coin, the inseparablerelationship between the development and characteristics of coin and the rise of Atheniancity.The second part discusses that during the classical period of Athens city, the changesof the coin, the reason causes the changes, and the influence on the Athens city becauseof the changes of the coin. Through the changes of the coin in this period, we canunderstand politics, economy, culture and religious customs of the entire Athens well.The third part mainly presents that during the decline of the Athenian city, there aremany changes of Athenian coin alone with the city-state crisis. Changes occurred to thecoin has closely linked to the political instability, social unrest, loss of dominance and theimpeding of urban culture in Athens.
