The Study On "Zhuangzifawei" By Zhongtai

Chuang-tzu is an important classic in ancient China. The thought of Chuang-tzuis broad and profound..It also has a great aptitude for writing. The annotation ofChuang-tzu has formed an endless stream. Zhuangzi Fawei is the representative of theannotation of Chuang-tzu in the period of the early Republic of China written byZhong Tai. This paper attempts to study Zhuangzi Fawei in the historical context ofthe interpretation of Chuang-tzu in order to analyze the characteristics of annotationand then give a detailed research on Zhong Tai and his study of Chuang-tzu. Finallywe can evaluate the historical value and status of Zhong Tai and his work ZhuangziFawei correctly. This paper is divided into three chapters:The first chapter mainly gives an brief introduction of Zhong Tai and hiscomplex academic pursuit, which illustrates the historical background and academicbackground of Zhuangzi Fawei’s main characteristics.The second chapter mainly explores argumentation of Zhong Tai’s declaration ofChuang-tzu’s Confucian tendency. Zhong Tai believes that Chuang-tzu has notbanished the tendency of Confucianism and Chuang-tzu respects Confucius.Chuang-tzu’s thought does not have a tendency of leaving the world behind. Thereare many similarities between Chuang-tzu’s thought and the Confucian thoughts.The third chapter mainly discusses the characteristics from six aspects ofZhuangzi Fawei: explaining argumentation by Confucian Classical works especiallyZhou Yi，explaining Chuang-tzu’s thought with Lao Zi, explaining Chuang-tzu’sthought with Meng Zi and Golden Mean, explaining Chuang-tzu’s thought withBuddhist Thought, accurate check on ancient notes and rigorous argument, textualstudy of Chuang-tzu.Research on Zhong Tai and "Zhuangzi Fawei" have not yet been widely spread.And the paper only has given an elementary discussion on it.
