The intensity and speed of affective priming and semantic priming and whethertheir processing is parallel or interactive are always the focus of concern. But mostexisting researches of comparison of two kinds of priming are indirect. This ERPstudy was designed to directly compare the two kinds of priming by using standarlymatched materials and the same tasks. We hope this study could offer some moredirect and objective evidence for the same and different feature of the affectivepriming and semantic priming.Method: by setting the SOA=250ms and using standardly matched materials, wedesigned a ERP study of using valance classification task for the affective primingand semantic classification task for the semantic priming to compare the differencesbetween them.Result: the behavior result is that buy the setting of SOA=250ms, the two kindsof priming happened typically. Both of them are accelerating the judgement to thetarget when the prime stimuli and target stimuli are congruent, and decelerating thejudgement to the target when the prime stimuli and target stimuli are incongruent. Theresult of LPC latency shows a significant consistency main effect, F (1,18)=6.164,p<0.05; Comparing each condition to its baseline condition, we find that theinconsistency affective priming has a longer LPC latency than its baseline conditionon electrode of P4,P3,Pz; the consistency affective priming has a shorter LPC latencythan its baseline condition on Pz electrode. The analysis of beta oscillations shows thatthere is an interaction among priming type and electrode position between200-300msafter the target stimuli, F (4.20075.604)=2.671,p <0.05. A further single samplet-test shows that affective priming had a larger beta amplitudes than semantic priming.None interaction with priming type had been found in behavior and ERP results.Conclusion:(1)at the automatic processing level, the brain is more sensitive toaffective informarion at the stage of information perceiving and evaluating;(2) at theautomatic processing level, affective priming and semantic priming have the samespeed of processing;(3) at the automatic processing level, the processing of two kindsof priming are relatively independent.
