WangChong’s Thought Of Contradiction And Its Influence On Literature

The academic circles for Lun Heng always centers on Wang Chong’s thought of opposing being absurd. The contradiction in the book is mentioned but not goes deeply into. The generation of contradiction in Wang Chong’s thought is generally considered to be helpful for his debates or influenced by the age, but the essence of contradiction is hardly discussed. The paper analyzes Wang Chong’s ideology from two parts, which concluded by contradiction of both thought and literary elements to study the causes of contradiction and its influence to literature. After analyzing the contradiction and its influence on literature, the author concludes that the contradiction is an expression which represents Wang Chong’s attitude of seeking truth from facts rather than a result of limitation of the times.In addition to the introduction and conclusion, This thesis is divided into four parts.The first part mainly introduces contradiction and its cause. Wang Chong’s thought is interwoven with the two kind of thought, both " opposing being absurd", also have theological superstition. In general we emphasize is the former, the latter is usually ignored. This chapter mainly aims at the contradiction in his thought about the theological system and contradiction of their discussion, and analysis of its ideological origin.The second part introduces contradiction of Wang Chong’s literature thought and its cause by studying both contradiction of content and form and literature contradiction of serving for secular and ruler. Wang Chong doesn’t focus on either of the two contradictions that it reflects his intellectual thinking on literature from the reality and a spirit of seeking truth from facts.The third part mainly describes Lun Heng’s contradiction on literary theme. The contradiction in Wang Chong’s thought leads to a contradictory discourse about opposing being false and stressing the present but not the past. Although academics always pay attention to these two points, it also exists being false and stressing the past but not the present in Wang Chong’s thought. It reflects that his ideology is contradictive but realistic.The fourth part discusses the contradiction on literary expression from two aspects of exaggeration and image. Wang Chong has an attitude of both attention and exclusion on this contradiction from the point of view of literary functions. Although he doesn’t treat the contradiction from the perspective of pure literature, but he has overseen both significance.
