This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the In Other Words: A Coursebook onTranslation, Chapter V. In view of the high expertise, the difficulties which the author encountered duringthe translation process would be checked over and over again with the help of various information. Thedifficulties and problems what the author met in the process of translation have been selected to reviewingand analyzing. The report explores two aspects of such texts:1) the pre-translational preparations andprocedure management was very important to ensure the quality and speed of translation,2)both theanalysis of the type of text and the flexible translation skills are all important to the translation`s accuracyand readability. The author reveals the goals of the translation by text analyzing, and arranges the translationprocedures according to the characteristics of such a project. In order to achieve precision and fluency, theauthor pays great attention to the detection and specification of latent meaning, and adopts methods likesupplementation, omission, substitution, and division and integration of sentences in the source text. The author has learnt lots of translation skills through this project, and also gained experiences forthe later translation. Through the task description and analysis, it is found that1) the preparatory workbefore translation is all-important (the more sufficient it is,the more smooth the task going.);2) thetranslation process of a foreign text(especially a high specialty orientation text) will be highly acceleratedby a certain extent of specialized knowledge;3) only with the comprehensive professional quality (such assolid knowledge of bilingual language, abundant background knowledge of different cultures, and greatprofessional ethics) could a translator produce a high-quality text. It is hoped that this report offers some referential value for the translation of such documents.
