A fast developing world merging together witnesses continuous exchanges andcollisions between different cultures. China in implementing the strategy of "goingout" attaches great importance to the popularization of its culture with a view toenabling China better known to the world and enhancing mutual understanding.China’s social stratification is a part of the sociology research within the domain ofthe world. Therefore, the translation of the book concerned from Chinese into Englishis of practical significance. The translation report has introduced the background ofthe translation task, its selection basis, text characteristic, the preparation for, processof and modification to the translation work in subjects of task profile and processdescription. Under the guidance of the concept of cultural translation, this translationreport discusses the effectiveness of cultural function equivalence as the translationprinciple. Cases are studied to show linguistic differences between English andChinese, and causes of cultural factors and differences in thinking pattern arediscussed. Solutions to untranslatability are offered and translator’s subjectivity isstressed to bridge different cultures.
