In teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages,Teaching Chinese culture plays an extremely important role.But the quality of teaching Chinese culture is not satisfying and it is closely related to the lack of excellent Chinese culture teaching materials.Chinese culture teaching materials shoulder the important task to broadcast Chinese culture,as well as the materials for language training,so the research of it is of vitally practical significance.The research in Chinese teaching materials mainly focuses on language teaching materials at present,especially for spoken language,reading,audio-visual and other teaching materials,and very few studies focus on Chinese culture teaching materials.Previous studies of it had been confined to the internal factors and lacked of correlation theory.In addition,there is a little comparative study on Chinese culture teaching materials with other countries' culture teaching materials,and lacks of systematic research.The study of teaching English as a second language started earlier in foreign countries with reference of the experience of other countries,it has entered a relatively mature stage.Especially these teaching materials which were written based on other scholars' achievements.The comparative study between Chinese and English culture teaching materials can offer a new perspective for us.This paper based on previous' achievements and related theories from the study of Chinese culture teaching materials,started with comparative study between Chinese and English teaching materials.The objects of this research are China Panorama and An Introduction to American Culture.Both of them are representatives in Chinese and English culture teaching materials.The research methods in this paper are textbook compiling theory and other related theories.This study analyzes these two culture teaching materials from four aspects: the basic information,the selection of contents,the ways of presentation and the design of exercises and tries to find out the advantages and disadvantages of them.By comparison,problems of China Panorama are: the objects of writing is too broad,the form of writing is too simple,the contents of writing is get stale over time,the ratio of communicative culture is too small and the design of exercises is lack of creativity.These problems in today's Chinese culture teaching materials are universal.Meanwhile there are some advantages from An Introduction to American Culture should be adopted: the design of teaching object,the form of teaching materials,the selection of cultural content and the design of exercises.The last part of this study offers some suggestions according to the problems which exist in Chinese culture teaching materials from two aspects about form and contents with the hope to provide a reference for future development of the construction of Chinese culture teaching materials.
