Individuals who have differences in cognitive styles will show different personality traitsand behavior. When people judge the orientations who have different habits of spatialorientation, they will show the differences in time consuming and accuracy. Cognitive styleand the habit of spatial orientation can affect individuals in spatial cognitive ability and howto complete the spatial orientation tasks in varying degrees. This paper bases on the spatial orientation ability which belongs to spatial cognitiveability, I choose60students from Hebei University of Architecture as experimental potentialsubjects. Then I use the domestic version of the Embedded Figures Test (EFT) to select thefield-dependent (FD) and the field-independent (FI) subjects, use the field trail named arrow’spointing and the model experiment according to the experimental paradigm of Levinson toselect the absolute frame of reference (AFR) and the relative frame of reference (RFR)subjects. I use spatial-orientation ability as indicators of spatial cognitive ability,60potentialsubjects are tested with the computer experiment designed by E-prime to determine how theybehave and respond when they have the absolute sense of direction task. I got36valid dataand analyzed to explore the relationship among the individual cognitive style, the habit ofspatial orientation and spatial cognitive ability, which reveals how strong prediction thecognitive style and the habit of spatial orientation have to anticipate spatial cognitive ability. The results show that:(1) The test records of spatial cognitive ability between the subjects who belong to differentkinds of cognitive style are significantly different. The scores of subjects who belong tofield-dependent (FD) are obviously better than the subjects who belong tofield-independent (FI), and there is a significant positive correlation between cognitivestyle and spatial cognitive ability.(2) The test records of spatial cognitive ability between the subjects who have different habitsof spatial orientation. The score of subjects who like to choose the absolute frame ofreference (AFR) are obviously better than the subjects who like to choose the relativeframe of reference (RFR), and there is a significant positive correlation betweencognitive style and spatial cognitive ability. (3) Cognitive style and the habit of spatial orientation can have united in explicating spatialcognitive ability, and they have strong predictive power for spatial cognitive ability.
