This translation is based on College and Career Ready written by Prof. David T. Conleyat the University of Oregon in America. This is a book on the research of postsecondaryeducation, which can be of enlightening and guiding significance in solving the connectionproblems between secondary and higher education in China. The translator takes chapter oneout of it as the practice, which includes the definition of college and career readiness, currentmeans to determine the readiness, operational examples as well as the differences betweenhigh school and college courses.The report on the translation is made up of six parts such as introduction, theoreticalfoundation, translating process, cases analysis with translation strategies, translatingexperience and conclusion. It is mainly about the description of the translating process and theanalysis of the cases based on the practice and the relevant theories, which involves four stepslike preparing, understanding, expressing and modifying. The first step is to introduce theauthor and his book, analyzing the text type to determine the translation strategies andprinciples. The second is to understand the context with an emphasis on the syntactic analysisand the concept cognition. The third is to describe the semantic choice, word formation,reconstruction of sentences and the text by means of some techniques like abstraction,concretization, division, combination, syntactic linearity, inverse translation and so forth inreference to the context and cognitive modes of translation. And the final step is to modify thetranslation and the report in light of the blending and coherence rules with an aim to achievepreciseness, accuracy, fluency and conciseness as well as the appropriate analysis of the cases.The translating experience includes the understanding of the translator’s subjectivity as wellas the guidance of translation theories. And the last part is the conclusion of the report on the translation, pointing out that the translator’s subjectivity serves as an important role in thedynamic development of the translation.
