Chinese words, which embody the habits, the faith, the values, social conditions, traditional customsand the way of thinking, contain a rich fund of national cultural. We can say that the meanings of Chinesewords are a mirror that reflects the Chinese culture. The notion of “Food is the first thing for people,” isthe most important and essential idea in Chinese civilization life, so it is no hard to see that words aboutfood must contain so many meanings about Chinese culture. Words about food, the carrier of traditionalculture, can be seen everywhere which possessed important position in modern Chinese language. Andalso, it is the emphasis and difficulty in vocabulary teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Theapplication of dietetic words can not only improve students’ communication skills in mandarin, but alsomake students more comprehensive, more in-depth understanding and knowledge of the long history andsplendid culture of the Chinese nation. Because of that,dietetic words teaching is very important inteaching Chinese as a foreign language.The first part of the thesis is the introduction which describes the research status, content,significance, as well as methods in this study. The second part is to make a definition of dietetic wordsinvolved in this study on the basis of the Chinese language proficiency test vocabulary. The third partintroduces the relationship between dietetic words and Chinese dietary culture. The fourth part introducessome teaching methods of the words about food in teaching Chinese as a foreign language class. Thefifth part is the influence of dietary culture on Chinese international communication.
