Speech recognition has been a goal of research for more than four decades. However, in spite of the glamour of designing an intelligent software that can recognize the spoken words, and in spite of the enormous research efforts spent in trying to create such a speech-recognition software, we are far from achieving the desired goal of a software that can recognize spoken discourse on any subject by all speakers in all environments. Thus, an important question is, how can we build a bridge between speech-recognition and English-to-Chinese interpretation that will enable an interpreter to simplify interpretation as well as making interpretation more accurate. So this thesis aims at relieving interpreters of their toiling and difficult note-taking work by using a state-of-art speech-recognition software Dragon Naturally Speaking, because note-taking is the most difficult and energy-consuming part in the process of interpretation, Dragon Naturally Speaking is able to translate an English speaker’s speeches into texts with accuracy of93%to98%, which transforms the oral interpretation into comparatively easier sight-interpretation so that an interpreter is able to redistribute his or her energy and time in other interpreting parts, he or she will undertake less pressure in the process of interpretation, in the meanwhile, the interpretation will become much easier than before and to the greatest extent Dragon is capable of making the least mistakes and causing least information omission.
