A Sight Interpretation Report Of A German Delegate’s Cultural Exchange In Inner Mongolia’s 70th Anniversary

The “Chinese Cultural Year” activities were held in Germany in 2017.The activities were jointly organized by China Cultural Center in Berlin and the Department of Culture of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.This year?s theme is “Inner Mongolia,Beautiful Grassland—My Home”.Hence,a German delegate visited Hohhot for the cultural exchange.The 2017 witnessed the 70 th anniversary of the founding of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.The Achievements Exhibition on the 70 th Anniversary of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,hosted by the Department of Culture of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,and undertaken by Inner Mongolia Exhibition Center,provided a platform for the German delegate to understand the unique history,culture and modern development of the nomadic people in the north of China.This report is based on a Chinese-English sight interpretation practice of Achievements Exhibition on the 70 th Anniversary of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for the German delegate.The characteristic culture of ethnic minorities in Inner Mongolia and the development of advantaged industries were introduced by the interpreter.This report which is on the basis of the interpreter?s practice covers four parts: task overview,task process,case analysis and task summary.Among which task process and case analysis are the main chapters.In the task process,pre-interpretation preparation is very important for the interpreter.The big challenge lies in the interpretation of technical terms in the fields of history,economy,new energy resources and Mongolian culture-loaded expressions.In the case analysis,all examples are from the practice.In relation with cultural vacancy,the strategies of domestication,explanatory amplification and transliteration are served for reconstructing cultural connotation from the source language to the target language.In dealing with the difference in sentence structure between Chinese and English,the strategy of syntactic linearity is a chief concern to achieve the goal of improving the naturalness and smoothness of the target language.With regard to the input of high-density information,the interpreter adopted the strategy of compression to convey the main points.Different strategies played positive roles in promoting the successful Chinese-English sight interpretation practice.The Chinese-English sight interpretation practice provides an opportunity to test the interpreter?s ability,to strengthen the interpreter?s professional knowledge,and to gain valuable experience.In the process of analyzing and solving the problems,the interpreter is deeply aware that the proper use of the interpreting strategies can be of great help in language-switching operation in practice.This report,thus,to some extent,provides a reference for sight interpretation in external publicity and spreads Inner Mongolian culture.
