With the realization and development of our country’s higher education in the processof internationalization, the employment pressure of college students is increasing, resultingin the diverse characteristics of graduates. The teaching reform of College English, as themost important element, plays a vital role in cultivating innovative talents to adapt tomarket needs. College English Teachers, as the guiders of basic subject, whose teachingability and teaching level has become the key to guarantee the teaching quality of collegesor universities. In recent years, the educational researches and the front teachers put greatemphasis on the development of teaching ability of college English teachers. Making ageneral survey on the present situation about the teachers’ development of teaching ability,most researcheres focus mainly on the methods of literature analysis or the investigation;however, it is not much to see that researches adapted the combination of qualitative andquantitative methods to study and discussed the development of teaching ability, let alonedoing research based on a certain university.Therefore, this thesis synthetically uses the theories and methods of pedagogy,psychology, management science as a support,the teaching ability of College Englishteachers as the center point, radiating five related aspects (hereinafter refers to teachingdesign ability, teaching implement ability, assignment evaluation ability, teachingreflection ability and teaching research ability). Through the comparisons and analyses ofpresent teaching ability situation of Jiangxi Agricultural University as a representative ofthe local agricultural universities, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics andNanchang University as a representative of the non-Agricultural universities, the writertries to reason and find the main reasons for the gaps, and then based on this, puts forwardsome related suggestion from both the subjective and objective aspects to improve theteaching ability of local agricultural universities.
