Numerals constitute an important aspect in each kind of nationalculture,as they exist not only as signs of calculating, but also they havevarious connotations under different cultures。From the point of view ofthe science,the numeral is a type of precise order,however,in the eyesof people the numerals are the symbolizations of distinctly characteristiccultures。Both Vietnam and China are the nations who admire the numeralculture,that is,both Vietnamese nation and Chinese nation worship thenumerals, endow them with a mysterious color and label them asauspicious numbers and taboo numbers。 The thesis is based on theVietnamese and Chinese system of numeral expressions, lay muchemphasize on the rather overall arrangement and contrast of the culturalconnotations of Vietnamese and Chinese cardinal numerals, have ansystematic exploration into the differences of the forms and the meaningsof Vietnamese and Chinese cardinal numerals,further more analyze thephenomenon of the diversity so as to draw an conclusion of the reasonslead by the two kinds of diversity。We expect we can assist people to havemore understanding of the numeral culture,so that people can gain someenlightenment and help for the Vietnamese and Chinese cross culturalcommunication and the foreign language teaching。The structure of this thesis arranged as follows: Chapter One ispresented to define the main concepts,explain the research objectives bystudying ways and the language sources and account for the currentsituations of relevant research at home and abroad。Chapter Two will bepresented by the contrast of the forms of Chinese and Vietnamesecardinals。Chapter Three is meant to make a comparison of the meaningsof Chinese and Vietnamese cardinals。Chapter four as the key part will be analyzed and clarified by the differences of the meanings of Chineseand Vietnamese cardinals。Chapter Five is the conclusion。The chapterconcludes the main research achievements and discusses the differencesand their relevant reasons of the forms and meanings of Chinese andVietnamese cardinals。At the same time,the chapter also points out thatmaking the comparison and research of Chinese and Vietnamesenumerals not only can deepen our understanding of the Chinese andVietnamese language itself but can push forward Chinese and Vietnamesecross cultural communication effectively as well。...
