| This report is based on a program of translating practice; the source text thatexcerpted from chapter2,2013World Economy Outlook issued by IMF is a financialreport forecasting the short and mid term global economy outlook.Reviewing the research achievements of this realm, the author summarizes thedevelopment, characteristics of electronic tools and analyzes the significance of e-toolaided translation. In the process of translating, the writer sorts out the regularities inthe application of electronic tools in translating field. Electronic tools carry muchstrength of low cost, real time, update, portability, etc. This can greatly improve thetranslation speed and quality, reducing the workload of the translator. But from apractical standpoint, the application of electronic tools is feasible only in the sense ofword, phrase, and sentence level and is non intelligent. In the long-term use ofelectronic tools, the translators tend to get less independent, so they need muchprudence in selecting solutions of electronic tools aided translations. Electronic toolsare multiple; this paper is unable to cover all the application cases. With some typicalapplication cases in translation practice, the report focuses on the use of the Internetsearch engine, website and electronic dictionaries in translation. Meanwhile, theauthor finds that the application of electronic tools aided translation has its strengthsand deficiencies which means that the translators can not blindly or simply rely on theuse of electronic tools in translation. Electronic tools can help translators to improvethe efficiency of translation, and get a better understanding of translation activitiesand translation study. The quality of tools aided translation and translation study in thefield is determined by the way of making scientific and efficient use of the electronictools and bringing their advantages into full use, which is one of the translators’essential qualities for survival in today’s network-dominated environment. |
