A Translation Project Report Of An Introduction Of Mao Zedong Thought And The Theories Of Socialism With Chinese Characteristics(Chapter5)

The original text of this translation report is a book called "An Introduction of Mao Zedong Thought and the Theories of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics", which is one of the textbooks of college students’compulsory course about ideological and political theory in our country. It belongs to the category of political essays. Political essay is a kind of argument interpreting or commenting major national events and social problems from the perspectives of politics. The stylistic characteristics of political textbook are clear outline, extreme generality and explicit explanation, which bring great challenges to translators. The research method of statistics is used in this report. There are three major difficulties in the translation, which are original text understanding, term translation and long sentence translation. This report discusses the above difficulties and puts forward the translation strategies accordingly based on analysis of typical examples.This translation report can be divided into four parts. The first part is the description of the translation project, including the introduction of translation materials, stylistic features of translation materials and clients’requirements of the project. The second part is the description of the translation process, including preparation, process and checking after translation. The third part is the analysis of typical examples, and is the main part of the report. According to the stylistic characteristics of political essays, the translation strategies of vocabulary, non-subject sentence and long sentence are discussed in this part. The fourth part is the summary of this translation project, including the experiences and problems of the translation.The translation of politics textbook is rare in China, and the previous scholars have done little research in this field. The author hopes that through the analysis of Chinese-English translation of chapter5of "An Introduction of Mao Zedong Thought and the Theories of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" can contribute to the translation practice of other similar politics textbooks in future.
