Research Of Mencius’ Philosophy Of History

In this paper, an analysis about Mencius philosophy of history in The Words ofMencius was written. The systematical study of the Mencius philosophy of historywas put forward, with the Ren as the core concept.Mencius philosophy of history is the inheritance and development of Confucianthoughts since Zhou gong and Confucius. In Mencius view,"the Law of Heaven" isthe Ren, is kindness. In the relationship between the Law of Heaven and theHumanity is harmony, the Humanity is following with the Law of Heaven. Startingfrom his the Ren as the core philosophy foundation, Mencius proposed muchphilosophical reflection on history. These reflections are exerted great influence onChinese history and philosophy of history.Mencius thought about the Law of Heaven provides ontology based to Menciushistorical philosophy. The source of the Ren-Dao value in Humanity is human sourcefrom Heaven, the Humanity follow the Law of Heaven. The Law of Heaven is thefoundation of all things of human society; people have a consistent pursuit of Ren.According to the different degree of the people close to Benevolence, the heavengives people the different Destiny. Through this way, the Heaven makes peopleconstantly pursuit of the Ren-Dao value. It constitutes the change and develops ofhistory.Mencius reflected on ontic history, he believes that in the process of historicaldevelopment, the Ren-Dao value is the all-encompassing principle. To Highlightingthe Ren-Dao value or not as the standard，Mencius advanced a theory On historicalpatterns that "the world is born to long history, period of good order followed by oneof confusion ". In the order cycle, whether the kingcraft runs in times of peace andprosperity, or the overbearing runs at troublous times, the constantly pursuit andyearning of the Ren-Dao value is the same in the history of the world. The law ofhistory is that the historical patterns are variable but the Ren-Dao value is constant. Inthe history, the fundamental motive force of historical development is the Heaven, theHeaven promote the development of human history to reach the ideal society thateveryone to become the sagely King Yao or Shun. He thought that the virtuous andtalented people, like the saints, the king, the gentleman, are the subject to create thehistory. People as participants in history are the reference to the Heaven gives thedestiny to the king.Mencius reflection of history，then in his Historical Assessment system, the Renas the core to his system, the nobility of Heaven is someone practice his naturalinstincts which is comes from the Heaven, the nobility of man follows with thenobility of Heaven.
