A Report On E-C Translation Based On Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory Of The Extracts From What Is The Best Type Of Martial Arts?

With the development of global integration, cultural communication among different countries has been strengthened. Martial art, as an important part of culture, plays a significant role in the world cultural exchanges. Extensive and profound, Chinese martial art boasts a long history, far-reaching influence and rich cultural connotation. As the source text is very specialized, it is impossible to seek identical equivalents in translating. According to Nida’s functional equivalence theory, translating means communicating, and the purpose of translation is to achieve communicative function. However, the purpose of translating this article is to realize martial arts exchanges between China and other countries. The translator believes that Nida’s functional equivalence theory is applicable for martial arts translation, thus regards this theory as the theoretical guidance in translation.The translator expects that the translation methods and techniques listed in this report, such as transliteration and annotation of professional terms, liberal translation of simple words, amplification of subject and delete translation of sensitive topics, will provide some reference for translators in translation of this kind of text.
