A Study On The English Translation Of Martial Arts Texts In Museums

Wushu is an important representative of Chinese traditional sports form and culture.The implementation of the "going out" strategy of national culture and the rapid development of foreign exchange and cooperation of sports have accelerated the spread of martial arts to the outside world.As an important bridge of international sports communication,translation plays an important role in the process of foreign cultural communication.At present,the domestic research on Wushu translation is mainly focused on the translation of terms and classical books.So the scope of research is too narrow.In fact,many museums in China have a large number of Wushu cultural relics,which is an important platform for Wushu to be displayed to the outside world.Doing a good job in translating the texts of Wushu relics in museums can better promote the dissemination of Wushu to the outside world.At present,there are a lot of problems in the translation of Wushu cultural relics,such as lexical level: spelling errors,improper use of words,inconsistency of translated names and so on;syntax level: grammatical errors,confusion of word order,lack of important information and so on.In previous studies on translation of museum cultural relics,few people paid attention to the translation of Wushu texts.Most of the research has focused on case studies in thematic museums,there are more translation studies on the names of cultural relics,fewer explanations of speech,and lack of classification and translation norms of museum cultural relics,which cannot fully play the role of museum in spreading Chinese culture to the outside world.This paper focuses on the translation of Wushu relics from Shanghai Wushu Museum,Shaanxi History Museum,National Museum,Capital Museum,Henan Museum,Luoyang Museum and Zhoukou Museum into English.Taking the translation of Wushu cultural relics text as the starting point,according to the text type theory,it is concluded that numerous kinds of museum cultural relics texts mainly belong to informational texts,and divided them into two parts: names and narratives.According to the different properties and functions of cultural relics,Wushu cultural relics are divided into three parts: weapons,samurai images and wushu books.Among them,the cultural relics of weapon class is divided into the combat class,the practice class,the status symbol.The image of the samurai cultural relics are divided into pottery figurines and clothing accessories.Through the analysis of the problems existing in the translation of Wushu cultural relics in different aspects,this paper applies Skopos Theory to standardize translation studies on these problems by means of literal translation,transliteration and annotation,free translation and revision.Hope to provide a reference for the translation of museum Wushu cultural relics.
