"Nostalgia" as a general awareness of human behavior and psychological activity candate from the distant past. However, as a theoretical object of study, its meaning hasundergone an extension from the pathology to psychology, again to the changing process ofsociology and culturology. Schiller’s nostalgia as part of his aesthetics and philosophy, themeaning of "nostalgia" is also more concerned with sociology and culturology. The nostalgic thoughts may not be the most important or most significant in Schiller’sthoughts, but it is very important for his creations,it is the heart in all his works, includingSchiller’s early works and later works as well as his literary theory works and literary texts. From the history of nostalgia theory research, Schiller is the pioneer of the modern nostalgiatheory as well as Rousseau, there is no possibility to avoid Schiller’s nostalgia if we want tostudy the modern nostalgia theory. The connotation of Schiller’s nostalgia is "freedom", Schiller selected the democraticpolitics in ancient Rome period, the full humanity in ancient Greece and the naive art inancient Greece as the form of his nostalgia, intending to build his ideal kingdom. Schiller’snostalgia is neither to go back to the ancient nor to build a fantasy future; it is closely relatedwith the era and the social background he lived. It’s full of Schiller’s humanitarian concern, presenting the characteristic of revolutionary, aesthetic, dialectical and guidance. The theory of Schiller’s nostalgia not only plays an inspiring role in the pursuit ofliberation in Germany but also in the world. The alienation of modern people, as well as theviewpoint of using aesthetic against rational in his nostalgic thoughts have an importantinfluence on Marx, Habermas and the Frankfurt school and so on, especially his nostalgicthoughts about the ideal state of human nature, and the aesthetic education which guidespeople using "game impulsion" unified "sensibility impulsion" and "modality impulsion" toachieve the integrity of human nature, have a great reference value for present and futuregenerations.
