As a developing country, China still has a long way to go in building upsocialism with Chinese characteristics, during which the enrichment of people need toenrich the spiritual emotional life will be of essential support. And for China, oneimportant approach towards becoming a prosperous country consists in the rapidincrease of the level of the nation’s spiritual civilization. The fulfillment andenrichment of the spirit world of Chinese people depends on the long-standing andprofound Chinese national culture. If we can take a critical look at the ancientcivilization, and absorb its essence and discard its dross, or even to a certain extent, tocreatively endow it with new meanings and functions to comply with the needs ofcontemporary society, the ancient civilization will be of effective supplement for theconstruction of socialist spiritual civilization.The origins of traditional culture and the worship activities are inseparable.Chinese people always attach great importance to worship activities, which is boundto be related to people’s cultural and spiritual life, since China belongs to one ofworld’s ancient civilizations. Worship activity, in its definition, is a special ritual toadore and worship the personified gods. And the improvement of ancient humanbeings’ understanding of the world is followed by the increase in the number of godsand the diversity in worship activities.The ancient Chu Kingdom is also called WuChu (Wu means wizardry). For theancient people of Chu, worship activities hold remarkable social significance, whichis the indispensable part of their lives as well. At the same time, the worship culture isthe spiritual backbone of the whole society and an important tool to maintain socialorder.Chu’s emphasis on worship rituals directly result in flourishment of arts. Chupeople have long lived under the umbrella of various gods, and, from an early age,they are deeply influenced by many ideas of god worshiping, therefore, the materialcivilization created by them must also contains a very strong taste of worship cultureof Wu, which has a very high artistic attainments and possesses a strong romantic color. This also has played a very far-reaching influence on the subsequent artdevelopment.During the Cultural Revolution, China’s traditional worship culture has almostbeen on the verge of distinction. However, people have gradually come to theunderstanding that worship culture is the manifestation of ancient people’s worshipand memorial of ancestors and gods. The Chinese government is hoping to revive theancient civilization and provide places with direct access to traditional cultureavailable to people, making people understand and study the traditional culture bymeans of recreation through constant seeing and hearing. So, it is extremely urgent toestablish worship landscapes featuring worshiping elements, which serve for thememorial activities. This thesis the studies the symbols of ancient worship artifacts,tries to obtain new form of symbols by reforming and reconstructing of the ancientones, and uses the new symbols in the modern landscape modeling, so as tostrengthen people’s understanding of Chinese ancient culture in daily life and troughrecreation, and enrich contemporary Chinese people’s spiritual world.
