This paper aims to solve such problems arising from translating theinvestment documents as difference between sentence structures in Chinese andEnglish under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s theory of functional equivalence. The paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction whichexplains the backgrounds of the paper, including the economic background, thatis, the gradual liberalization of Chinese capital market and the deepeninginteraction between Chinese capital market and the international market. It alsobriefs the academic background in which there are few researches on thetranslation of investment documents from Chinese to English, despite manystudying the translation of financial documents from English to Chinese. Theintroduction also explains the research approach of case study and translationmethods such as literal translation. The second chapter briefs the main contentof the functional equivalence translation theory. Functional equivalence isbased on the principle of equivalent effect, where the relationship between thereceptor and the message should be substantially the same as that which existsbetween the original receptors and the message. For the sake of naturalness, thisreceptor-oriented theory minimizes the foreignness of the source text setting. The third chapter briefly introduces the whole process of the translation. Thefourth chapter is the specific case study. Through the examples in this part, thefeatures of financial texts and the corresponding translation approaches havebeen demonstrated with detailed explanation. The last part is the conclusion ofthis paper which points out the significance of the paper in instructing thetranslation of investment documents from Chinese to English.
