A Report On E-C Translation Of Navigation Documents From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence

The role of the ocean in a country's economic development and opening up is important,and navigation can reflect its politics,economy,military,science and technology.Navigation documents belong to the category of technical text,and can support the promotion of a major maritime country.The features of navigation documents,such as accuracy of message,formal and rigorous style,and highly conciseness in language,ensure production efficiency and shipping safety.Based on E-C translation of sailing directions and guide to entry port in navigation documents,this translation report discusses problems in the translation process,and provides appropriate solutions for reference.The report is divided into five parts: the first part introduces the background of the translation task and the significance of research;the second part describes the translation procedures which consist of pre-translation preparation,translation process description,and post-translation and quality control;the third part,following the pre-translation preparation,conducts text analysis and compares the features and functions of the source text and the target text;the fourth part,from the perspective of functional equivalence theory,states the problems encountered in translation process from the lexical,syntactical and textual aspects combined with translation cases,analyzes the translation process and proposes appropriate translation strategies,including Ming Cong Zhuren,amplification,reorganization,reversion,voice transformation and adaptation based on politeness principle;the fifth part summarizes the findings of the translation report,and presents inadequacies and suggestions for future translation practice and study.
