There is an inherent theme in photography—humanistic care to society, and thus“human” is a theme that most photographers must face. In the volatile Chinese society, the public is becoming more self-conscious, with social disharmony emergingeverywhere. The accelerating social stratification gives more space for documentaryphotography in China, exposing issues between human beings, between human andtheir surroundings, and between human and themselves. Although many Chinesephotographers have created many impressive documentary works, it is noticeable thattheir methodologies haven’t developed in accordance with our times, especially thosefocused on the underprivileged communities and presenting their sufferings. This lack of attention brought the author’s attention to photographic works ofAutistic Children in a special children art rehabilitation center in his graduation project. The author addressed certain issues during the process of photographing autisticchildren and finally summarized this experience for reference in future practice andresearch.
