Abstract/Summary:
In the2nd year of ChongNing(1103B.C),the Song government publishedYing Zao Fa Shi in its political center, Kaifeng city which is the eastcapital of Song dynasty(now located in the city of Kaifeng,Henanprovince). Therefore, the early buildings exist in Henan province areclosely related to the literature, Ying Zao Fa Shi. The Henan province, which locates in the Central Plains, is an important correlative andinteractive connection in the spacious area of the north part of CentralPlains. The research on stage dividing of Song, Jin and Yuan dynasty inthis area, can help us know more about the origin and changes of earlywooden buildings in the north area of Central Plains. This paper mainly based on the first-hand data about the shape ofbuilding which acquired through field-observations, theinscriptions, etc. The research on individual cases, which are selectedby several standards, such as clear age, well preservation, lessperturbation, and typical shape, mainly focus on analyzing historicalmaterials, collating age, making clear the shape of buildings, andanalyzing the original components. Moreover, other building shapesappearing in brick-chambered tombs and masonry pagodas which have clearage are also used in this paper. The stage dividing of individual caseswas directed by basic rules of archeology during historical period. Inbrief, this paper mainly explained the spreading and distributing ofdifferent building shape, the publishing of Ying Zao Fa Shi and some otherrelated questions.According individual cases and imitative wooden buildings which haveclear age, stage dividing of Song, Jin and Yuan dynasty in Henan province, can be divided into four periods. The building shape had an obvious changein the late of Song dynasty. By contrast, less change happened in the Jin and Yuan dynasty, mostly revolving around ornamental component. Somebuilding shapes, which were similar to shapes recording in Ying Zao FaShi, lasted for a long time in Henan province. With the enhancement ofdecoration, building shapes appeared some evolutive characters to Mingand Qing dynasty in the late of Yuan dynasty.By comparing with other shapes existing in perimeter zones, Henanprovince had a close relationship with Shandong province. However, a greatdifference existed between Henan province and the south and the south-eastof Shanxi province. After the publishing of Ying Zao Fa Shi, the buildingshapes in Henan province had a significant effect on the south andsouth-east of Shanxi province. This event became an important motivationon the change of building shapes in the north area of Central Plains. Atthe same time, the Henan province were affected by perimeter zones on acertain degree. The publishing of Ying Zao Fa Shi had a close relationship withbuildings in Henan province. Through stage dividing and comparisonbetween different areas, we can draw a conclusion that main stream ofbuilding shapes already existed in Henan province before the publishingof Ying Zao Fa Shi. The composing of Ying Zao Fa Shi sufficiently absorbedcharacters of building shapes in Henan province, possessing profoundlocal origins.
