Word-order Change In Chinese-English Interpretation

Chinese and English, with their origin in Sino-Tibetan language andIndo-European language, are different in expression and carry different culturaltraits.This thesis attempts to probe into one of the disparities between the twolanguages-word order.Its focus is given to attribute and adverbial to examinedifference on word order level and the contrast between parataxis andhypotaxisas well as the logic and relationship among elements in a sentence tolook into difference in clause order.The dissertation also discusses possiblesolutions to the change of word order in C-E interpretation on word and clauselevel respectively under Nida’s functional equivalence theory.It is dedicated toproviding effective guidance for interpreting training and practice.The author introduces real cases of interpretation from past governmentpress conferences in an effort to extract the characteristics of press conferencelanguage and support proposals of word order adjustment, which mainly centeron the position of adverbials and attributes, matters and ideas as well as themethod of simplification, and also serve to reinforce the coping strategies.
