This project report is based on the translation of The Governance of Energy in China: Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy written by Philip Andrews-Speed, a famous expert in energy sector. This book analyses the nature of energy governance in China by combining ideas relating to transition management with the theories of new institutional economics and historical institutionalism. "This book can be viewed as an initial effort to re-orientate research focused on China’s energy and environmental future." reviewed by The China Journal. The book has eleven chapters, and the translator has selected the last two chapters to translate, which mainly provides a framework for examining the institutions of energy governance and for identifying factors which assist or constrain the country’s path to a low-carbon economy. There are about over 100,000 words in the whole book and the translated chapters are around 9000.Under the guidance of “classification of text type” put forward by Peter Newmark, the translator completed this report, which falls into 4 chapters, the background, objectives and significance of the project as well as the layout of the report are presented in the first chapter, the research background of the translation project, including the theoretical basis, the introduction to the writer and the main content of the source text as well as the analysis of the source text, was touched upon in the second chapter. The third chapter talks about the difficulties the translator faces in the process of translation and the translation methods which came in very useful as translator spent so much of her time translating the work. The translator sums up the experience and lessons learnt in this translation practice as well as some problems yet to be solved.
