The material for this translation report is the seventh chapter excerpted from a book named Gender in World History(second edition). This chapter mainly describes British influence on India about gender patterns and the great efforts taken by women in the two countries to protect their own rights.Combined with literal translation and free translation, this translation report is composed of four parts, that is translation task description, translation process description, translation case analysis and translation practice summary. The first part includes a description of material source, books and authors; the second part expresses pre-translation preparation, the difficulties and solutions in the first draft and the finalizing of the text after proofreading and polishing; case study is the core of this report, which respectively analyzes some typical example sentences in the original text from the perspective of vocabulary, syntax and text according to learned translation skills. And the last part is writer’s feeling and enlightenment during the translation process, in hope of accumulating experience so as to improve translation capability.
