Pierre Bonnard was born in October 3,1867 in France at a suburb of Pairs named Fontenay-aux-Roses. It was a time when artistic trend’s storing and art reform’s comin g.Bonnard is one of the many innovators, at the same time the main sponsor of the Fre nch nabis. Affected by the capitalist industrial revolution, people’s way of thinking an d living habits as well as artistic conception has changed. Artists began to break the tr adition mode of art, and began to derive nutritional from Middle Age art, Africa art, p rimitive art, oriental art and so on. Piare Bonnard’s early style was affected by Gaugui n, Cezanne and Japanese Ukiyoe, after that he began to form his unique style. This thesis firstly gives an analysis of the style of Pierre Bonar’s works by illustrating his decorative features of the form, flatness of composition and subjectivity of color using. Then two representative contemporary Chinese artists are cited to illustrate Pierre Bonar’s influence on Chinese contemporary oil painting through a close analysis of the common and specific character in their works. Finally it comes to my graduation piece Natural Beauty of Taihang Mountain, in which we can see my understanding of Bonar’s practice of his painting style through selection of subject matter and artistic conception, and in the meantime, this understanding directed my creation of this work.
