In 1920, the year that the beginning of the new-vernacular literature, the Eastern Miscellany made entirely innovation on literary columns, showing a trend toward the New Youth by translating foreign literature in vernacular. Over the decade, from 1920 to 1931, the Eastern Miscellany achieved its prosperity of translation literature. During that time, it is Weak Nations that made a great achievement by making more than half of the literature translation. This essay, according to the studies of the Weak Nations’ literature and introductions from 1920 to 1931, is based on research into the summary, attitude and style of the translation and introduction of literature of Weak Nations in the Eastern Miscellany and a comparison with radical New Youth’s literary style, in order to discover the moderate and practical concept of translation studies and literary attitude of the Eastern Miscellany, moreover, to indicate that the translation and introduction of literature of Weak Nations in the Eastern Miscellany has made a special historical contribution to the new-vernacular literature’s development.The main part of this essay contains three chapters: in Chapter One, as to summarize the Weak Nations’ translation and introduction and its tendency, the writer studies the translation and introduction of literature of Weak Nations in the Eastern Miscellany(1920-1931) overall, which offers an answer to the basic question that why Eastern Miscellany made a huge amount of Weak Nations’ literature; in Chapter Two, based on the summary of Weak Nations’ translation and introduction of literature, the writer makes an objective evaluation of the Eastern Miscellany’s works that the manners of the translation and introduction were systematic and various, realistic idea had been stimulated, and criticism idea steadily developed, which exactly shows the variety, openness, moderateness and practicality of Eastern Miscellany’s translation studies and literary attitude; in Chapter Three, by summarizing the historical contribution of the Eastern Miscellany’s translation and introduction of literature of the Weak Nations, the writer indicates that the Eastern Miscellany has a great historical value which cannot be ignored, lying in the development of new-vernacular literature, especially in promoting the Vernacular Movement and establishing narration and commentary.
