This is a simulated interpreting report on Australian vocational education system: Origins, purposes, structure and issues. This report describes one simulated interpreting task, analyzes the interpretation of the speech delivered by Professor Srephen Billelt, and discusses common difficulties of the text as well as possible coping strategies and solutions. In this report, it combines the background information, objective and significance of the subject, collecting background information of Australian vocational education system, building up glossary. In the process of the interpreting, the author strictly depends on the standards of the real interpreting, and in this report, the author lays special emphasis on two parts. The first and foremost is that the interpreter encounters a lot of difficulties in the interpreting process. The author does not have enough time to prepare and does not know much about the background of the topic. Due to the insufficiency of the background knowledge, anxiety and misunderstanding of the source text were unavoidable. Sometimes the author fails to keep up with the speaker, the ability of listening can not make any sense, and rely much on note-taking, so the output is awkward. The second part is that the interpreter applies to some interpreting skills in the interpreting process, such as syntactic linearity, segmentation, omission and so on to make sure the interpreting text is accuracy and fluency.Through this simulated practice, the author profoundly understands the following points: 1. The ability of listening can be improved through practice and learning, as to reduce the difficulties that are encountered in interpreting; 2. Acquiring encyclopedia knowledge while being adept at interpreting skills is extremely beneficial for conducting interpretation, meanwhile, the language skills and cultural background knowledge is also essential; 3. Cultivating the ability of short-term memory, so as not to completely depend on note-taking; 4. Carefully observing and experiencing life can greatly help the interpreter to understand the original text; Finally, adequate preparation before interpreting, meticulous conduction during the interpreting process are the basic requirements to guarantee the quality of interpreting.
